Description
We walk along the streets and squares of the city, while we dive together into the rich wine and city history.
Along the way, you will discover, among other things:
why wine has been cultivated in Antwerp and the Low Countries since Roman times and what can still be noticed today;
what the monks have to do with it;
what the plague in the Middle Ages had to do with wine;
how the Fall of Antwerp, the VOC, and the Huguenots are linked to South African wine production;
and… what wine actually tasted like in the past.
Besides wine through the ages, you will also meet historical figures who were significant for both Antwerp and wine culture, such as Charlemagne, the Spanish King Philip II, William of Orange, and Philips of Marnix.
The stories are supported with prints and photos, so you literally get a clearer picture of all this knowledge. After this wine walk, you will view wine, but also Antwerp, completely differently.
